17 Months
If there was one word that I could use to best describe Peyton this month it would be AWARE. I guess in the back of my mind I have known that Peyton was probably picking up on things that I do and say, but it seems like this last month she has grown leaps and bounds by the things that she is doing. For instance, she has started "washing her hands" at her play kitchen sink, she shakes her head "no" and "yes" when we ask her questions (most of the time the answer we get is "no"....question: "do you want to go night night?" response: shaking her head no; "do you want to go brush teeth?" response: shaking her head no...guessing you get the picture haha). She also follows commands such as "take it to daddy" or "put it in the trash can."
I am constantly amazed by how much she is growing up. Her vocabulary is exploding, with her saying new words almost daily. She is big into saying "truck" when she sees anything that remotely resembles a truck on the road or when she hears a truck driving by like a garbage truck. She loves to pat, and will pat me on the back when I carry her. She also continues to love looking at "baby" on my iphone (this is her way of asking to either look at herself through the reverse camera or look at pictures of herself on my phone). She constantly is asking to "go go" so we stay out and about a good bit of the time. She has got a mouth FULL of teeth that I have gotten to the point that I can no longer keep up with when she is cutting a new tooth. These days she seems to be staying up later, until almost 8, and sleeping till about 8 the next morning. She still isn't a great napper, but is pretty consistent with wanting to take a 1-1.5 hour nap around 11:30 in the morning, although she is very flexible and can push the nap back several hours if we have something going on at that time.
She is constantly making me laugh and reminding me of how blessed Matt and I are to be her parents. Looking back at where I was a year ago, I remember thinking that there was no way that things could ever be better than they were then, and I was so sad that my 5 month old baby was getting so big. I can now say without a doubt that I was highly mistaken!!! Peyton has grown into a beautiful, loving, outgoing little girl and I am more in love with her every day!

Cutest Little Sweeper I've Ever Seen!
After I got home from work yesterday, I packed Peyton up to run over to our new house to check things out. My parents and Matt ended up meeting me over there to look at something and by the time we had finished it had gotten to be dinner time so we headed over to Cracker Barrel at the Colonnade. Peyton started getting restless as we were finishing up with our dinner so we pulled her out of the highchair so she could move around. Little did we know that she was going to take it upon herself to grab a nearby broom and start sweeping up the floor! Now if I could just get her to start sweeping the floors at home!!!

My Little Swimsuit Model
P and I were running some errands down at Lee Branch this afternoon so we stopped into Fairytales and Fireflies since it is rare that we are down that way. I have very little control when it comes to buying clothes for little Miss and couldn't pass up the urge to get her a pink seersucker bathing suit for this summer, but not before first trying it on! Peyton could have cared less about prancing around the store half-dressed, as long as it didn't get in the way of her playing toys.

Dinner for Two!?!
Here are a few pictures of how dinner went down tonight for Peyton. She wanted nothing to do with being in her highchair, so I took her out and sat her tray on the floor and the next thing I know she is sitting down on the floor eating. This was of course too much of a temptation for Ellie to handle, so she proceeded to hover over Peyton hoping that she would share her food...

These last two pictures are of Peyton giving Ellie kisses. I sure do love my girls!
Grocery Shopping Fun
Then, as if things weren't eventful enough with the paci sharing and blowing kisses, Peyton wanted my credit card as I was getting it out of my wallet so I handed it to her and before I knew it she was standing up in the grocery cart and leaning over trying to swipe my card on the credit card machine! This little girl was cracking me up! It's hard to remember what it was liking grocery shopping before P, but I know it was definitely not this entertaining!

16 Months
This last month has brought some fun and not so fun changes. One of the big changes it has brought is the addition of 4 teeth within 1 1/2 weeks! And I am talking about her molars---BIG teeth! This resulted in several not so fun days and sleepless nights. Although I must say, Peyton really has been a trooper and we didn't actually even spot her new teeth until they had already cut through her gums. She cut the top two molars on Thursday, Feb. 9 making tooth #9 and #10 and then the bottom two molars on Saturday, Feb. 18, putting us at a whopping #11 and #12. It's hard to believe that she already has #12 teeth!
I've just recently noticed that she can now transfer objects from one hand to another. She is also spending more time playing independently than she used to, which also means getting into more things than she should! She loves getting in and out of her cozy coup car that GP and Granddad gave her for her 1st birthday. She also loves emptying out mommy and daddy's desk drawers and making a mess!
P is going through a phase right now where she really wants to be held a lot of the time and she wants my undivided attention. Don't get me wrong I do love this, but it is hard sometimes because she always seems to want to be held when I am in the middle of doing something (getting her meal ready, washing dishes, etc.). Along with her desire to be held has also come a new liking to patting. I've noticed that when I am holding P that she likes to pat me on my back. She will also pat me on my hand when she sits in my lap and I rock her. It's amazing how little things like that just melt my heart!
This little girl is extremely attached to her "nona" aka paci and keeps it very close at all times. She also loves her baby and enjoys handing her to me with her bottle so that I can feed her :) Peyton has gotten better at napping, usually taking a late morning nap for 1-1.5 hours. She rarely has any interest in an afternoon nap, even if she misses her morning nap. She has also gradually started staying up later, as we are finding it harder and harder to get her to settle down at night. Our one time 6:30-7:00 bedtime has become more like 7:30 or 8. Although I can't really complain because on most mornings she does sleep until after 7. I'm not sure what's to come in the next month but right now I am loving this stage that we are in!
**The below pictures are of Peyton reading a little children's prayer book that was given to me when I received my First Communion. It has been on the little table next to her chair since she was born and in the last month she has become very interested in looking at it. While I was trying to take her 16 month picture for this post she reached over and grabbed it off of the table and started "reading" it. How precious are these pictures!?!?!
| This one cracks me up...she is holding a little prayer card that was in the book and is "talking" on the phone! |
